The Editorial Board of Massachusetts’ leading legal news resource, Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly, has urged the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court to rule that a professor is not a “minister” and may therefore pursue her claims for retaliation and breach of contract against her employer, Gordon College.

As the Editorial Board explained:

It is not intended to give institution of higher learning or health care providers with religious affiliations carte blanche to violate anti-discrimination and other employment laws.”
