Fair Work has filed a class action lawsuit on behalf of truck drivers classified by Carrier One as independent contractors on November 16, 2020, in the federal district court for the Northern District of Illinois.

The lawsuit alleges that Carrier One, which is headquartered in the greater Chicago area, misclassifies its truck drivers as independent contractors when they should be treated as employees. The lawsuit further alleges that Carrier One fails to pay its drivers compensation owed to them under their contracts, takes excessive and unlawful deductions from drivers’ pay, and fails to reimburse drivers for all business expenses in violation of the Illinois Wage Payment & Collections Act.
