United States District Court for Massachusetts has certified a class likely to include over 15,000 individuals who have worked as drivers for CRST Expedited on wage claims under both the federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and Iowa’s wage laws.

Those claims allege that the drivers who worked for CRST were the victims of unfair and deceptive business practices, and were charged usurious interest rates by CRST for purported debts that the company claimed the drivers owed them.

In her decision granting class certification, Chief Judge Patti Saris found that the drivers were “similarly situated” within the meaning of the FLSA, and that common questions of law and fact concerning the legality of certain CRST training policies under Iowa law predominated over issues affecting only individual drivers.
